Wabi-Sabi Japanese Vessel

The philosophy of wabi-sabi honors the beauty in natural flaws and comes to us from Zen Buddhism. This Showa era Japanese Ceramic Vessel features a ‘wabi’ - meaning simple - rustic, dark brown glaze and has attained the sought after ‘sabi’ over its life. The vessel’s open mouth features a distinctive rolled neck, echoed by a rounded body which now displays fine ‘sabi’ markings, subtly revealing the underlying kaolin based ceramic.

Eloquently simple on its own, it would look especially striking with a seasonal ornamental tree branch setting it off – ikebana style.
