Thai Incense Burner

$750

An absolutely spectacular example of a Ritual Vessel from one of Central Thailand's ancient sites. Likely made of fine Sawankhalok clay, the elegantly modeled vessel, very likely an incense burner, features ring handles, striated red-brown and black iron oxide glazing, and most remarkably, three sets of vertically repeated decorative spouts. The ritual piece also features a stupa-shaped spire, which is directly allusive to one of Buddhism's most sacred architectural traditions. The spire represents the crown on Buddha's head and and the stupa is symbolic of enlightenment. This antique Thai ritual vessel is simply beautiful to look at but would also be a superb object for meditative contemplation.
