Pre-Columbian ceramic is visually appealing to both collectors and non-collectors alike, partly because these long ago artisans went far beyond the utilitarian and infused the concept of human identity into their work. This humanistic Face Pot displays an appealing face on the neck, with a dramatic eye shape delineation. The striking jug handles typically wouldn't have survived to the present day. It is quite likely that this was an early self-portrait or a portrait of someone important to the artisan.
