Gertrude Abercrombie Painting

$3,500

A pillar of the Midwestern Surrealists, Gertrude Abercrombie was an integral part of the Chicago arts community in the mid-20th century. A self-styled Bohemian, she often sought to interpret both realism and dreams to paint in a controlled color palette that often includes owls, moonlit landscapes and cats. In her own words, “I am not interested in complicated things nor in the commonplace, I like to paint simple things that are a little strange. My work comes directly from my inner consciousness, and it must come easily.”
