Pre-Columbian Handled Vase

Very likely Pre-Columbian Lug Handled Water Vessel is formed of red terra cotta and decorated with simple but distinctive black slip geometric lines, patterns and symbols. This was the ‘original’ water bottle and was designed to purpose. A long neck, allowed for drinkability and low spill risk – and while probably not fully waterproof from a modern sense on the interior, there were a number of techniques, long-ago artisans used to ensure water-bearing functionality. The perforated lug handles would have enabled the ‘water bottle’ to be worn or hung with a rope.
