Archaic Terracotta Pot

$425

An undated, Pre-Columbian-like hand-built red terracotta pottery vessel, featuring a strikingly sharp, stamped, incised patterning across the exterior surface. The classical form rests on a flattened, stable base with a well-rounded body rising up to a sloped shoulder and wide, open mouth, indicating the original purpose of this vessel was likely for daily use. The silhouette is perfectly imperfect with a distinct tilt offering visual interest and also engendering modern curiosity as to the original intent behind the elegant stamped pattern. Was it simply a beautiful geometric pattern which reads timeless then and now or did it represent the symbol of a well-heeled family or area of influence?
